BİZANS KAFKASYA’SININ YÖNETİMİNE DAİR BAZI TESPİTLER- FACTS ABOUT THE BYZANTINE RULE OF THE CAUCASUS REGION

ÖZ

Geç Antik Çağda Roma ve Sâsâni mücadelelerine sahne olan Kafkasya, iki devlet arasında sürekli el değiştiren bir bölge olmuştur. Bölge, özellikle Roma hâkimiyetindeyken nakharar adı verilen yerel idareciler tarafından idare edildi. Roma İmparatorluğu’ndan sonra Kafkasya, Bizans İmparatorluğu hâkimiyetine girmiş ve imparatorlukta bölgeyi yerel idareciler vasıtasıyla ancak imparatorluk unvanları vererek idare etmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra bölgede, bölgedeki halklar Ermeniler ve Gürcüler aracılığıyla Hıristiyanlık yayılmış ve Hıristiyanlık, imparatorluğun bölgedeki dayanak noktası olmuştur. VII. yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren Güney Kafkasya’da İslam Devleti ile Bizans İmparatorluğu arasında mücadeleler başlamış ve bu mücadeleler uzun bir süre devam etmiştir. Bu çalışmada, İmparatorluğa bağlı olarak Kafkasya’nın, Ermenilerin ve Gürcülerin özellikle idarî, askerî ve Hıristiyanlık bağlamında nasıl yönetildiğini tespit etmeye çalışacağız.

ABSTRACT

In the Late Antiquity, the Caucasus, the scene of the Roman and Sasanian struggles was a region that would continuously changed hands between the two states. During the rule of the Roman Empire, the region was administered by the local governors called Naxharar. After the Roman rule, Caucasus came under the domination of the Byzantine Empire that ruled the region through the local governers; but, by giving them imperial titles. Moreover, being acknowledged as the official religion of the Empire, Christianity spread through the region, and the Armenians and Georgians converted to Christianity. As of the mid 7th century, the Islamic State and the Byzantine Empire commenced to struggle for the rule in the Southern Caucasus and this conflict lasted for long. This study, with reference to the administrative and military issues, will try to illustrate how the Armenians and the Georgians are ruled in the Caucasus, considering Christianity.
