DR. ABDULLAH CEVDET’İN KARADENİZ SEYAHATİ İZLENİMLERİ – DR.ABDULLAH CEVDET’S IMPRESSIONS ON HIS TRAVEL TO THE BLACK SEA REGION

Düşünce tarihimizde batıcı fikirleri ile yer alan ve Jön-Türk hareketinin ideologlarından biri olan Abdullah Cevdet, 1912 Ekim’inde bir hafta kadar süren bir Karadeniz seyahatine çıkmıştır. Bu seyahatinde İnebolu’dan başlayarak Samsun, Ordu, Giresun ve Trabzon’a kadar uğradığı yerler hakkındaki görüş ve incelemeleri ile birlikte karşılaştığı olayları İctihad Dergisi’nin 67, 69 ve 70. sayılarında Haziran-Temmuz 1913 tarihlerinde yayınlamıştır. Abdullah Cevdet’in notları bölgeye dair demografik, idarî, mülkî, askerî, coğrafî, sıhhî, ekonomik bilgiler vermekle birlikte eğitim kurumları hakkında da bilgiler içermektedir.

Bu çalışma Dr. Abdullah Cevdet’in Balkan Savaşı sürecinde ve 1. Dünya Savaşı arifesinde bölgeye dair verdiği resmî-gayri resmî bilgiler ve izlenimlerini kapsamaktadır. Bu seyahat notları şehir tarihçiliği açısından ve batıcı düşünceye sahip bir Osmanlı aydınının bölgeye ait izlenimlerini değerlendirmek bakımından önem arz etmektedir.

ABSTRACT

Abdullah Cevdet, a supporter of western values and westernization and the champion ideolog of Young Turks movement, went on a trip to the Black Sea Region in October 1912. He wrote about his experience of one-week vacation. Reviewing the impressions of the people he met and places he visited, he published this account of observations in the Journal of İjtihad, issue 67, 69 and 70 in June-July 1913. Abdullah Cevdet’s account covers demographic, administrative, civil, military, geographical, sanitary, economic information and also some interesting details about the educational institutions. This study, therefore, is based on Dr. Abdullah Cevdet’s travel writing that provides us with official and unofficial information about the region as well as his own impressions. Revealing  the perceptions of an Ottoman intellectual, these travel notes are of particular importance in terms of urban history.
