1803’te ticari bir komiser olarak Trabzon’a gelen Pierre Jarôme Dupré 1820’deki ölümüne kadar Trabzon’da ikamet etti. Dupré’nin en önemli görevi konsolosluk bölgesinde Fransız ticaretini geliştirmek, korumak, bölgedeki ticaret ve endüstriye dair gözlemler yapacak ve bunlardan Fransız çıkarları açısından istifade etmeye çalışmaktı. Bunun yanında Dupré, Rusya’nın politikalarını gözleyecek Karadeniz’in kuzeydoğusu, Gürcistan, Erzurum, Kars ve İran’daki gelişmeleri takip edecekti. Dupré Trabzon’da ikamet ettiği on yedi senede Fransızların ticari beklentilerini yerine getiremese de içinde bulunduğu kargaşa ortamında Fransız hariciyesinin bölgedeki bilgi kaynağı olarak Trabzon ve çevresindeki iç çatışmalar ve Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı ve diğer önemli hadiseler hakkında önemli raporlar hazırladı. Bu çalışma Dupré’nin yazışmalarından hareketle konsolosun Trabzon’daki durumuna ve faaliyetlerine ışık tutmayı amaçlamaktadır.

ABSTRACT

Pierre Jarôme Dupré who came to Trabzon in 1803 as a trade commissioner resided in the city until his death in 1820. The most important duty of Dupré was to develop and protect the French trade in the consular region and also he would observe the local trade and industry and would try to take advantage on behalf of the French interests. Beside this Dupré would observe the Russian policy and follow the developments in the northeast of the Black Sea, Georgia, Erzurum, Kars and Iran. Although Dupré did not meet the French’s expectations in seventeen years residence in Trabzon, as a source of intelligence in the civil turmoil in the region, he prepared significant reports about local conflicts, the Ottoman-Russian wars and other important events. Based on Dupré’s correspondences, this paper aims to enlighten the situation and activities of the consul in Trabzon.
